At Bloemfontein, we aim to inspire a love of learning of mathematics and equip our children with the mathematical skills and confidence they need to succeed in school, career and life. We foster positive ‘can do’ attitudes and we promote the understanding that, ‘we can all do maths’. We follow a clear, well-structured spiral curriculum which fosters a deep understanding of mathematical concepts through small connected steps. We use a range of concrete resources and representations to expose the mathematical structures to support children’s understanding of new mathematical concepts. Children’s efforts are valued and mistakes are viewed as an essential part of learning. All children will have the opportunity to reason mathematically and discuss a range of challenging problems in a variety of different
contexts.
